Slovenian is spoken by more than 2 million people, while Croatian by more than 5 million. There has been a great influence of the German language in the Slovenian lexicon. Croatian is one of the four varieties of Serbo-Croatian: those who know Croatian can easily understand Serbian and Montenegrin (which, however, use the Cyrillic alphabet as a writing system) and Bosnian (which uses both Latin alphabet in the Croatian version, and the Cyrillic alphabet in the Serbian version).
