The current geo-political and international economic structure sees European countries increasingly engaged with the challenges coming from the countries of East Asia, in particular China. The Chinese language is increasingly becoming a necessary tool in professional training and study. The nationally spoken Chinese language, called putonghua, is also known as Mandarin Chinese. In a state like China, extended like a continent, the language has always presented significant differences from area to area. Mandarin Chinese, based on the Beijing dialect, is now used as a language standard: it is the language taught at school, used in newspapers and in the workplace. Of the seven existing dialect groups, Mandarin Chinese is the best known and it is estimated that there are around 900 million speakers in the world. Knowing Mandarin Chinese today is a huge advantage, both for the progressive intensification of trade relations between China and Italy, and for being able to get to know one of the most ancient civilizations in the world more closely.

Zhongghuo Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, HSK Chinese Proficiency Test, is the only exam to assess the level of language proficiency for Chinese officially recognized by Chinese Government.
Established in 1984 in Beijing and introduced in Europe in 1994, was specifically designed and structured by Bijing Univerisity’s HSK Centre in the model of language assessment exams already existing, such as TOEFL in USA.
The exam is aimed at all students without age or qualification requirements and is divided into three levels, with three different degrees of difficulty – ABC – for the “Basic” and “Elementary / Intermediate” levels, where A is the highest degree.
It is possible to take these exams in authorized venues.
